Supporting Parents
Supporting a child often begins with supporting the adults around them. At Amber Cove Psychology, we work alongside parents to help make sense of their child’s needs, and to find ways of responding that feel clear, manageable, and effective in everyday life. Our approach is collaborative and reflective. We aim to build on what is already working, while gently exploring what may help things move forward.
How We Work with Parents
Parent support may include:
Understanding your child’s profile and needs
Exploring patterns in behaviour, emotions, or learning
Developing practical strategies for home
Strengthening parent–child interactions
Supporting consistency between home and school
Sessions are paced to allow time for reflection, discussion, and gradual change.
A Thoughtful, Ongoing Process
Parent support is not about applying fixed strategies.
Instead, it is a process of:
Understanding
Trying small changes
Reflecting on what works
Adjusting over time
We remain alongside you as your child grows and as new questions or challenges arise.
Video Interaction Guidance (VIG)
We offer Video Interaction Guidance (VIG) as part of our parent support work.
VIG is a strengths-based approach that uses short video clips of everyday interactions between you and your child.
VIG can be helpful for many families, particularly where there are questions about communication, connection, or behaviour.
How VIG Helps
VIG can support:
Stronger connection and communication
Greater understanding of your child’s cues and responses
Confidence in responding to your child
More positive and attuned interactions
The process is gentle and affirming to help parents notice and build on strengths that may not always be obvious in day-to-day life.
