About Amber Cove Psychology
At Amber Cove Psychology, we understand that navigating a child’s developmental or educational journey can often feel like wandering through a thick mist. Our practice was founded to be a steady light in that uncertainty, providing clarity through specialized child assessments and consultancy for parents and schools. We believe that every child’s potential is a glow waiting to be seen; our mission is to offer the warmth of empathetic support paired with the clinical precision needed to clear the path forward. Whether we are collaborating with educators or empowering families with new insights, we are dedicated to helping every child emerge from the mist with confidence.
Dr Diona Zheng
DEdPsy, PGDE, BSc (Hons), CPsychol, MSPS
Director / Educational & Child Psychologist
From Classroom to Practice
Dr Diona’s path to educational psychology was paved in the classroom. Her professional journey began as a primary school teacher in Singapore, so she personally understands that for an intervention to work, it must be practical and achievable within the living, breathing context of a school day. After she earned her Doctorate in Educational Psychology in the UK, she continued honing her practice within an Inner London Local Authority as well as stepping into senior leadership roles. She has navigated the demands of statutory assessments and systemic consultation, while supporting children across a vast spectrum of needs including learning differences, social-emotional and neurodivergent profiles.
Current Roles
Since returning to Singapore, Dr Diona has focused on bridging the gap between clinical precision and human warmth. Her current work spans several vital roles:
Assessment Specialist: Conducting comprehensive assessments for learning difficulties (e.g. dyslexia), Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and twice exceptional profiles in private settings and with the Dyslexia Association of Singapore.
Academic Mentor: Serving as a part-time lecturer and clinical supervisor at the National Institute of Education (NIE), where she helps shape the next generation of competent teachers.
Accredited Expert: An experienced user of various tools, programmes and approaches including the Singapore Ability Scales (SAS), Autism Diagnostic Observational Schedule (ADOS-2), Autism Diagnostic Interview (ADI-R), dynamic assessment, Bright Start Cognitive Curriculum for Young Children (CCYC), Unstuck and On Target, and Video Interaction Guidance (VIG).
Guiding Philosophy
Dr Diona believes that no child’s journey should be walked in isolation. Her approach is intentionally neurodiversity-affirming and relationship-focused where connection and understanding is prioritised. She often draws on positive psychology, solution-focused and ecosystemic frameworks to ensure that support feels meaningful and respectful. Her goal is to walk alongside parents and schools with curiosity and care, clearing the path so that every learner can find their own way to glow.
